Jameson Tapped to Lead Aiken Chamber

Aiken, SC --The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce announced today that J. David Jameson will lead the Chamber as its President/CEO effective February 27, 2006. Jameson, 54, has more than 30 years of Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development leadership and management with organizations in both South Carolina and North Carolina.  In 1998, Jameson was named Chamber of Commerce Executive of the Year for North Carolina by the Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Jameson is no stranger to Aiken. In 1984, he was recruited to Aiken to lead in the formation of the Economic Development Partnership of Aiken and Edgefield Counties.  Jameson remained in Aiken for five years before being named President of the Fayetteville (NC) Chamber of Commerce.  For the past six years, he led the Greensboro (NC) Chamber of Commerce.  Prior to arriving in Aiken Jameson headed the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and Development Board, the Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce, and the Colleton County Resource and Development Board.

“I am honored to be returning to Aiken as Chamber President,” said Jameson, a South Carolina native. “After being away for fifteen years, I am impressed by the investment that Aiken has made in itself and how that investment is yielding high dividends for the community. I’m excited to be part of a team of folks who are working daily to build the economic vitality of the region.  Aiken is blessed with leaders that embrace their rich heritage, but are focused on the future.”

Chamber Board Chairman Paul W. Durban said that the Chamber leadership is pleased to attract someone with Jameson’s depth of experience to lead the Chamber.  He said that “David is known for his ability to lead, his knowledge of the industry, and his contagious enthusiasm.  It’s very much a plus that he has worked here before in a key leadership role.  He is respected and connected with the entire chamber profession.”

Jameson has also volunteered in leadership roles with numerous professional organizations including the South Carolina Community Development Association and the South Carolina Economic Developers Association where he served in various capacities including President.  Most recently (2005), he was President of the Carolina Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (CACCE), an organization that provides professional development programming for 150 Chambers in the Carolinas. Jameson currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina and the NCDOT Rail Advisory Committee.

Jameson is married to the former Sandra McMillan of Bamberg County.  They have two adult sons.
