John Kimbrell, IOM, named President/CEO of Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce

Regina Moody, Chair, Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to present the new President/CEO of the Chamber, John B. Kimbrell, who will begin his new position on February 15, 2010.

After an extensive review and interview process, Kimbrell was selected by the Gaston Regional Chamber Search Committee headed by Dr. Malinda Lowery, past Chair of the Gaston Regional Chamber. According to incoming Chamber Chair, Regina Moody, “It was important to get the right individual to lead the Chamber – it is a critical position for the business community of Gaston County, especially in these challenging economic times. John brings many skills and a great enthusiasm to this Chamber Presidents’ position.”

Kimbrell comes to Gastonia from Greer, SC where he served as the President/CEO of the Greer Chamber of Commerce for the past five years. During his tenure the Greer Chamber achieved 5 Star National Accreditation. They also saw a 35% increase in membership, the retiring of the Chamber’s debt, and the increase of income by approximately 49% and non-dues revenue by 230%. Currently Kimbrell is serving on the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. He has been actively involved in the Greer community, participating on the oversight committee for the Greer Partnership for Tomorrow, a task force established to address key issues and concerns about the future of Greer. He has also served on the All-America City Steering Committee and the Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) Airport Low Cost Carrier Task Force.

During his employment with the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, he served on the Anderson University Business Advisory Board and was a past Chair of the Easter Seals Advisory Board.

He has his masters from the University of Tennessee and his bachelor’s from Clemson University. He is a 2003 graduate of the Institute for Organization Management at the University of Georgia, the professional development program of the United States Chamber of Commerce. In 2007, he was invited by the Board of Regents to serve as a class advisor for the Institute program. He is also a graduate of both the Leadership Greer and Leadership Anderson programs.

Kimbrell, born in Anderson, South Carolina on August 7, 1974 has been married to Renee, a native of Pendleton, South Carolina, since 2001. They are the parents of a son, Conner age 6. They are looking forward to their move to Gaston County and being active members of the community.

"CACCE has been the best asset for someone like me – new to Chamber business.  Within the first few weeks of becoming a Chamber exec, I attended one of CACCE’s CEO Roundtables – just what I needed to help acclimate me to Chamber operations.  Since day one, this organization has been a resource to assist me on all fronts."

-Dan Meyer, President/CEO, Boone Area Chamber of Commerce
