The Clemson Chamber of
Commerce is currently seeking a Director of Tourism.
General Job Description:
Reporting to the President of the Clemson Area
Chamber of Commerce, the employee will promote and
encourage tourism in all forms to the Clemson, South
Carolina area, which includes Central, Clemson,
Pendleton and Six Mile, (the “market area”) as well as
Pickens County and the Upstate of South Carolina. In
addition, the employee will assist with Clemson Area
Chamber initiatives and coordinate visitor services for
the City of Clemson.
Primary Job Duties:

Create and promote an
annual marketing plan to promote tourism
opportunities and services within the market area.
Recruit events of all types to the area (marketing
and promotional efforts; trade shows; etc.) and
provide support to event champion’s
hospitality/visitor services to visitors. Seek local
champions to run events and seek events to be run by
local champions – match up events that are a good
fit for our area with area champions who have a
passion for the events.

Serve as Visitor
Services Coordinator for the Market Area:

Create and produce
visitor publications, brochures, maps, etc.

Create and maintain
tourism website for the service area, as well as
surrounding areas.

Host monthly
meetings of the Tourism Council.

Develop and maintain
relationships with other tourism professionals
throughout the area and the state to encourage
cross-promotion of tourism-related sites and events.

Oversee the front desk
and lobby area to insure that visitors are provided
with good information and helped in whatever way is
needed.

Track visitation and
survey visitors to get good numbers as well as
valuable feedback.

Apply for tax money and
grant money: City of Clemson Accomodations Tax;
Pickens County Accomodations Tax; and SC Parks,
Recreation, and Tourism matching grant money. Report
to funding agencies on a regular basis.
Position Notice
The Clemson Area Chamber of
Commerce seeks a Director of Tourism. The ideal
candidate will have experience in both marketing and
tourism; will have excellent interpersonal skills and a
friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic personality; will be
a self-motivated, self-starter who is both visionary and
attentive to details; and will have excellent written
and oral communication skills. A Bachelors Degree –
preferably in marketing or tourism – is required. The
position requires a great deal of interaction with
individuals in the community, business owners, tourism
officials, government officials and others; a
professional, friendly and customer-service focused
attitude and manner are vital. On occasion, weekend and
night work is required.
Compensation: commensurate
with experience and qualifications; projected to be in
the low $30,000 range. Limited benefits available.
