The Greensboro Partnership has a
Manager of Governmental Affairs position
available.
The mission of the Greensboro Partnership
is to serve as the principal economic and community
development organization in Greensboro, North Carolina and
to strategically develop a vibrant community that creates,
expands and attracts business while advancing the quality of
life for all. The Governmental Affairs Department of the
Partnership works to create awareness among elected
officials at the local, state, and federal levels about key
issues affecting the vitality of our economy.
The Governmental Affairs
Manager plays a crucial role in successfully fulfilling the
Department’s goals. The position is primarily responsible
for overseeing Greensboro’s local governmental bodies under
the direction of the Vice-President. Further
responsibilities include support and engagement at the state
and federal levels as necessary as well as the planning of
Department events.
Governmental Duties:
• Perform research and analysis on policy
issues, current laws, local ordinances, pending bills at the
State and Federal level, and pending local ordinance changes
or additions.
• Attend and issue reports on City Council
Briefings and County Commissioner Work Sessions.
• Attend/Monitor all City Council and
County Commissioner Meetings, as well as Zoning Commission,
Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, and other meetings as
necessary and issue reports when directed.
• Provide support in the development and
execution of local, state, and/or federal legislative
agendas.
• Establish rapport and advocate/lobby for
identified issues with local and state government officials
when directed and as appropriate.
• Draft a regular (i.e. monthly)
governmental affairs/legislative newsletter and ensure the
Governmental Affairs webpage is current.
• Provide support on state and federal
initiatives as appropriate and necessary.
Event Planning/Administrative Duties:
• Plan and execute all Governmental
Affairs events and assist with other Partnership events as
they relate to the role of elected officials.
• Serve as a central point of contact for
elected officials for all events.
Provide administrative and research
support to the following committees: Governmental Affairs,
Transportation, Alternative Public Revenue
• Complete and file all reports and other
documents requiring submission to the North Carolina
Secretary of State consistent with the Ethics and Lobbying
Laws.
Provide customer service to members of the
Partnership’s organizations by answering questions about the
Governmental Affairs department, researching policy issues,
identifying where to locate services, etc.
Partner with Executive Assistant on other
administrative duties as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the
Vice-President.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field
required; graduate level study preferred
• Three to five years of experience in
governmental or non-profit organization
• Proven research and analytical abilities
• Excellent written and oral communication
skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and
Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to advocate for identified
issues with elected officials at the local, state, and
federal levels of government
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced,
ever-changing environment, working as both a leader and team
member
• Ability to work a flexible schedule,
including extended hours as required
• Ability to travel throughout the
community on a regular basis as well as to Raleigh on
occasion
• This position requires registration as a
lobbyist with the North Carolina Secretary of State’s
Office.
