PDS
at Levine Museum of the New South a Hit with Participants
Jim Carpenter
and the PDS Committee did a great job in mixing it up this
year by moving the Professional Development Series Conference
to Downtown Charlotte. Lee Luff and Beth Simmons rounded out the committee and
together they brought together some well received ideas this
year.
The PDS
Conference was held at the Levine Museum of the New South in
Downtown Charlotte, The venue was just a block from our host
hotel, the Holiday Inn at City Center.
Both locations proved to be very accommodating to our
group and very convenient for participants.
Speakers
Danny Hearn, Shannon Viera and Liz Horton talked on a variety
of subjects that generated even more ideas for next year’s
programming. Most
participants want “motivational” type speaker next year
that can address the needs of small chambers.
Participants also want more “time in the
classroom”. This
has been a reoccurring theme in recent PDS conference
evaluations. Next year’s committee will be charged with
re-evaluating the current PDS set up and make the necessary
changes to accommodate the needs of the participants.
The
2006 PDS Committee secured key sponsorships from the Charlotte
Chamber of Commerce, The Union County Chamber of Commerce, and
the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce and from the chairman
himself, Jim Carpenter. Beth
Simmons also secured a key donation from Miller Brewing
Company for appropriate beverages for our Hospitality Suite
this year. This
event would not have been a success without the vital support
from these sponsors. The
next time you talk with one of them, please remember to thank
them for their efforts.
